How We Review Software

A useful review needs more than a feature checklist. Our framework combines product research, practical workflows, pricing analysis, and buyer-fit assessment.

A useful review needs more than a feature checklist. Our framework combines product research, practical workflows, pricing analysis, and buyer-fit assessment.

1. Define the buyer and job

We begin by identifying the customers a product claims to serve and the core jobs they need to complete. This prevents broad feature counts from overshadowing relevance.

2. Research and test workflows

Editors review current documentation, product interfaces, demos, integrations, plan limits, and representative end-to-end workflows. We look for both capability and friction.

3. Evaluate total value

Published prices are assessed alongside seat minimums, annual contracts, add-ons, implementation, support, usage limits, and likely administrative overhead.

4. Score consistently

Overall ratings consider usability (25%), core capabilities (25%), value (20%), integrations and scalability (15%), support and trust (15%). Scores are editorial judgments informed by evidence, not mathematical guarantees.

5. Fact-check and update

Material claims are checked against current sources. Reviews display checked or updated dates and are revisited when pricing, ownership, packaging, or major capabilities change.
